Pounui Lagoon is a pretty lagoon with great bird life that forms part of the Wairarapa Moana Wetlands. It is located at the south end of Western Lake Road, about 30 minutes’ drive from Featherston.
We will run a 7km loop from Western Lake Woolshed.
Starting on the road, we’ll run for a couple of kilometres before heading into farmland that tracks around the lagoon. At approx. the 6km point, people can either continue on back to the woolshed or take a dog leg out Paul’s Bank (also part of the wetlands), which is a stop-bank that takes us along the edge of Lake Onoke (with views across to Lake Ferry township). The total run distance is 9.5km (or 14km for 2 x the lagoon loop, for those in the mood 😊).
We’ll meet at Western Lake Woolshed for a start time of 9.30am, and we’ll all circle back to the woolshed after for coffee and morning tea. Rachel will put on some morning tea nibbles, but please bring something along as well.
